Tonga Tribal Turtle

During a recent sailing holiday in Tonga in the South Pacific we purchased an art piece of a stylized sea-turtle painted on parchment. This painting has been used as inspiration for a 3-dimensional sea-turtle. The blue of main body of the turtle was chosen to reflect the color of the waters around Tonga and the white tack fused decoration the color of the white beaches. The geometrical pattern on the shell is adapted from the painting and reflects typical decorations in Tonga. The turtle was then slumped over a ceramic conical form to create the 3-dimensional shape.
