With my kiln casting body of work I pull from my personal experiences, I’m a young artist that has a different perspective from the average person in the US today. My father is Cape Verdean, and my mother is Irish, I appear “white-passing”. With my work, I pull from these unusual perspectives. I view each piece as a portrait of specific moments in time from my life. With Lady on the Mood, the figure is cut into various ways and is almost unrecognizable as a human form. The skin looks like a hard shell practically as hard as a stone with abnormal growths sprouting from the surface. The drive behind this works comes from moments where I did not feel whole with myself.
