Throughout my years making stained glass art, from my first piece of fictitious animals made in 1969 to this piece, Homebody, created in 2020, I have examined imagery that has surface from my subconscious mind. This piece represents my latest exploration of light and color to bring about a visual experience of this idea. In making this piece I have executed a number of treatments to the glass including slumping, fusing, forming, staining and laminating. For example the head is slumped and painted, the multicolored hair is tack fused, the border pieces are slumped, and fused in some places, the leading shaped and the feathers, include fusing, tack fusing, silver stain (yellow) and gold pink. For me it is the light that shapes the idea. When the piece is situated in a natural light environment where both transmitted and reflective light illuminate it, one gets the full impact of the art.
