Vessels have been a universal artifact since civilization began. All cultures have created them to gather, hold and preserve lifesaving objects. I see vessels as unifying, and we need links to and symbols of this world unity more than ever. For 20 years I have been an architectural glass artist, and during these two decades I have also enjoyed Navajo-style weaving. 'Universal Vessels' fuses together these two media. Filling vessels with global treasures of cooperation and ingenuity can heal a broken world.
The vessel is a multi-color pot melt that is waterjet cut to form the vessel's stakes. Progressive slump-firings create the shape. The weft is silver icing jelly yarn woven as a 1:1 twill pattern.
